High Blood Pressure, Faith & Healing after 50

A Black Woman’s Journey Toward Natural Support. If you are over 50, honestly male or female, then your Blood Pressure should be a priority. I had no idea how serious this was for me until it came and knocked on my front door. It is time to get educated about our health. Be intentional about seeing the Doctor on a regular. This is not a game, and here's why.

The Best Way To Lower High Blood Pressure Naturally 🩸

High blood pressure is something many Black women over 50 live with quietly, often bravely but not always safely. I know, because I’ve lived it. And I’m still living it.

For years, hypertension has been more than a number on a chart for me. It has been anxiety, fear, side effects, prayer, frustration, and resilience all wrapped into one journey. If you’re reading this and nodding your head, I want you to know: you are not alone.

When the Numbers Are Life-Threatening, and You’re Still Standing

There was a season when my blood pressure reached 200/100.

Those are not just “high” numbers. Those are stroke-level, heart-attack-level, death-threatening numbers. And yet, I lived with them for weeks before they were finally regulated. I woke up every day praying, functioning, loving my family, and pushing through while my body was under silent attack.

I didn’t always feel heard. I didn’t always feel safe. And I didn’t always feel calm.

But by the grace of God, I’m still here. 🙌🏽

The Hidden Cost of Blood Pressure Medication 👇🏽

Medication can be necessary, and I honor that reality. But we also don’t talk enough about side effects, especially for Black women.

For the second time in two years, my hair began to fall out as a result of blood pressure medication 💊

As Black women, our hair is deeply connected to our identity, our confidence, and our sense of self. Losing it again was heartbreaking. It added emotional stress to an already stressful health condition. And stress, as we know, does not help blood pressure.

    Before:

    That cycle can feel cruel.

Anxiety, Fear, and the Weight Loved Ones Carry Too

High blood pressure doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed, it affects the people who love us too.

I’ve seen the worry in my family’s eyes. My Son is the one who purchased the Total Beets 🫜 a few different times until it was regulated enough NOT to be put in the hospital. I’ve felt the anxiety rise when my head felt “off” or my chest felt tight. Living with hypertension can feel like living on edge, wondering when the next spike will come.

Faith has been my anchor. Prayer has been my refuge. But faith also calls us to wisdom to care for our bodies as best we can.

Lowering Blood Pressure Naturally: Supporting the Body God Gave Us

This is where natural blood pressure support became important to me not as a replacement for medical care, but as a supportive tool for overall heart health and circulation.

One of the things I began incorporating was Total Beets, using both:

    • The chewable beets

    • The powder mixed into water or a protein shake

Beets are well known for supporting: 🫜

    • Healthy blood flow

    • Circulation

    • Nitric oxide production

    • Heart health

I appreciated how simple it was to add into my routine: no overwhelm, no pressure. Just consistency.

A Gentle Reminder for Black Women Over 50

    Sis, your life matters.

    Your stress matters.

    Your peace matters.

    Your hair matters.

    Your heart matters.

Lowering blood pressure naturally isn’t about chasing perfection—it’s about creating support, reducing stress where possible, and partnering faith with action.

    I still monitor my numbers.

    I still pray.

I still listen to my doctors.

But I also listen to my body now—more than ever.

    Faith, Wisdom, and Moving Forward

Scripture reminds us that our bodies are temples. That doesn’t mean we won’t face illness but it does mean we are worthy of care, compassion, and solutions that honor the whole woman: body, mind, and spirit.

If you’re a Black woman over 50 struggling with high blood pressure, or medication side effects, I hope this encourages you to explore natural blood pressure support, ask questions, advocate for yourself, and trust that God is walking this journey with you.

I’m living proof that even when the numbers look scary—life is still possible.

And healing? It can begin one faithful, informed step at a time.
